Hound Association of Scotland Championship Show 2013 Critique

I was very pleased to be asked to judge this show at such a lovely venue.Sunny but cold ideal for the dogs.

The quality of hounds was good in general . Some very poor feet and some coats needed tidying.

Class 122 PD(3entries) Abs:2

1. Mr & Mrs Smith – Fenton & Mr Doak ROSSLYN REIVER Dark 7 months old very promising puppy. Lovely head with dark eye, correct coat. Nice feet , straight front , great length , good topline held on the move. Great length from hip to hock. Will body up in time. Moved with drive. BP

Class 123 JD(1entry) Abs:1

Class 124 PG(7entries) Abs:2

1. Dr S Sharp’s ROSSLYN QONNOR Young dog who decided not to behave today. Well angulated front and rear , correct topline , great width behind. Moved well after his previous misbehaviour.

2. Mr Grogan’s ALBAEIRN DAVA Dark solid young dog. A little short coupled. Good enough front and great width across the rear. Movement not freeflowing today.

3. Mr & Mrs Smith Fenton’s REGALFLIGHT CLARION VON INTACK

1. Morton & Morgan’s COTHERSTONE SHOT AND STEEL Dark dog with a beautiful head and dark eye giving a lovely expression. Very well laid shoulder , deep chest , good bend of stifle , wide rear and correct coat. Topline held on the move. Moved true both coming and going. A joy to watch. BOB

2. Mr & Mrs Hawkins’ KWARICOTT CORELLI Heavier dog than 1. Well placed shoulder, correct topline , good bend of stifle great width across rear. Moved well.

3. Mr & Mrs McLoughlin,s GRAIZELAND ROCK AND ROLL OF GLENHAIGH

1. Spence and Heathcote’s CH HYNDSIGHT RIDDICK Masculine head , strong neck , deep chest, good front , plenty of bone. Correct topline , well bent stifle , width in rear. Moved well.Difficult decision. Unfortunate to meet the BOB today. RCC

CLASS 127 PB(3 ENTRIES)Abs:1

1.Peach and Taylor’s KILBOURNE PANDORA AT TALORPECHE Very well boned mature six months old. Nice head with dark eye giving lovely expression. Correct topline. well bent stifle. Good width across rear. Very flat feet – may tighten up as she matures. Moved really well on her first outing.

2.Mrs Constantine’s COTHERSTONE ISLAY MIST Very pretty smaller made six months old . Lovely feminine head and dark eye small ears. Good shoulder , topline and bend of stifle. Good length from hip to hock. Moved well enough. Less mature than 1.

CLASS 128 JB(2 ENTRIES)Abs:0

1.Mr & Mrs Davis’s KILBOURNE NIMBLE A bitch I admired as a puppy and she did not disappoint. Nice head and expression. Good angulation front and rear , correct topline held on the move , great length from hip to hock , wide quarters. Moved very soundly.

2.Foot & Crossan’s FINTRALGOR RED RED ROSE Difficult to assess as playing up her handler. Less bone than 1 . Lost her topline on the move. Needs time.

CLASS 129 PGB(7 ENTRIES)Abs:2

1. Miss Smart’s KESSOCK MARSCO OF GREYSTEIL Well boned bitch. Strong neck ,straight front , good topline ,well bent stifle. Moved with drive.

2. Mrs Constantines GENTIEHUN ADELAIDE KALEGINY Smaller than 1. Pretty bitch with lovely head. Good enough front ,correct topline , well bent stifle , adequate width across rear. Preferred the movement of 1.

3. Mr Grogan’s ALBAEIRN ZAMA

CLASS 130 LB(10 ENTRIES)Abs:2

1. Morton & Morgan COTHERSTONE DUCHENNE Litter sister of my BOB. Beautiful head with dark eye giving wistful expression. Well laid back shoulder , great depth of chest , good bend of stifle. Correct topline and coat. Moved freely. Unfortunate to meet the BCC winner when she was in such top form. RBCC

2. Mrs Taylor’s KILBOURNE BACCARAT TO ORMANSTAR Good length of body. Feminine head, great forechest with well angulated front , deep chest , well bent stifle. Poor feet.

3. Mrs Spence’s HYDSIGHT RIPLEY INTO SHAGIEAD

CLASS 131 OB(4 ENTRIES)Abs:3

1. Mrs S Platt’s CHARBONNEL FLISS Strong bitch , plenty of width across front , nice head with lovely expression , good shoulder .Correct topline , well angulated stifle , wide quarters . Moved very soundly coming and going. In sparkling form today . BCC
